Why do people say the meanest things?
Things about people they don't know or hardly know
And then they say it and it's out and people judge
And rumors spread and people hurt
But why create such a hostile environment
In a place already filled with stress
And grades and friends and fear and LIFE --
And never enough time and too much time and never any time at all
And dark spaces and happy places and light places and bright places
About people they hardly know?
What will it take to make these people look inside themselves
And pull out what bothers them
And break it down, not other people
And hopes and dreams and wishes and confidence
It's only high school. Four years and you're done --
So why do people say the meanest things?
